Project Altwarmbüchen (üstra Hanover)
New SiemACCS® technology

Within the framework of the large project “Integrating multimedia ATM network“ (IMAN) Siemens started up the control station and passenger information system ACCS in all its complexity at üstra public transport authorities Hanover in 2003. The IMAN project is designed to unite the various technological methods regarding to voice, data and video transmission on one platform and, in addition, making available to the users a graphical user interface which can be understood intuitively for the control of all processes including passenger information and safety.

The most important functions for üstra are emergency and information call, individual loudspeaker announcements, video monitoring for operation, as well as the safety of passengers and passenger information by train departure and train arrival panels in real-time. Moreover a cooperative approach of available applications and terminal equipment has been implemented in IMAN. This platform is also used by the security company ProTec, the police and move GmbH – a company that controls the individual traffic in the Hanover area. In addition the local public works authority and the agency in charge of motorway maintenance are benefiting from the availability of traffic data and images.

Since the end of 2005, Siemens Programm- und Systementwicklung GmbH & Co. KG has been expanding the IMAN, the successor model of ACCS by the latest SiemACCS®-technology. The basis of this technology is the new concept “Connection of stations and platforms via IP“. Now it is not only possible for IMAN, which up to now had been based on ATM technology, to manage the entire process communication based on IP but also to make available IP-based interfaces at stations and platforms by the addition of SiemACCS® components. Here you will find the latest technologies, such as the SIP protocol for voice communication or MPEG_4 for video encoding. SiemACCS® VD-T is the core of the new connection technology.

At the seven stations of the new construction project, the SiemACCS® VD-T provides the interfaces to the individual subsystems. All stations are equipped with emergency call and information units, public announcement systems as well as train destination displays for both traffic directions. The optional equipment of the stations with controllable cameras has already been prepared in SiemACCS® VD-T.
